The play guide
How to play Wood Shop
Wood Shop separates making an object into three jobs: shaping its profile, smoothing its surface and applying its finish. Choose it for close observation and small adjustments rather than running a whole workshop.
Your goal
Produce an object whose carved profile matches the supplied blueprint, then complete the polishing and painting stages.
Controls
Hold and drag to move the carving tool over the spinning wood. Use the same dragging motion with the sponge and spray paint when those stages appear.
Your first round
- Compare the spinning block with the target outline and identify the largest areas of excess wood.
- Hold the carving tool against those areas, moving along the block while repeatedly checking the profile.
- Drag the sponge over rough sections, then apply paint or the available stencil to finish the object.
This guide is based on the supplied game instructions.
Tips for your next attempt
- Start with the widest parts of the silhouette so you can see how much wood must remain.
- Near a narrow neck or curved edge, make shorter passes and compare the result with the outline.
- Finish shaping before concentrating on paint; decoration cannot restore wood removed past the target.
Watch out for
- Cutting through the outline reduces the accuracy of the result; the source describes no way to add the removed wood back.
- A long pass can remove more material than intended around a narrow section.
